New FMCSA Acting Administrator Named

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced on March 7 that Adrienne Camire has been named the Agency’s Deputy Administrator and Acting Administrator. In the first Trump Administration, Camire served as Chief Counsel at the Federal Highway Administration, overseeing legal services related to the federal aid highway program. Now she steps into the role of leading federal motor carrier safety programs.

Camire brings 20 years of legal, regulatory and compliance background in private and academic settings. She graduated from Brandeis University with a B.A. in economics and political science and earned a Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School.

The next step for Camire will be a hearing before the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation (Ted Cruz, R-TX, Chair), followed by confirmation proceedings before the full Senate. Dates have not been announced for those hearings. But Camire can begin FMCSA work immediately. Among the U.S. Department of Transportation agencies, the only deputy administrator position requiring Senate confirmation is that of the Federal Aviation Administration.

UPDATE:

As of March 21, 2025, Adrienne Camire stepped down as Acting Director of FMCSA, just two weeks after her appointment by President Donald Trump. The agency’s website now lists Sue Lawless as Executive Director and Chief Safety Officer.
